ROBERT A. JACKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A memorial fund was established in honor of Bob Jackson upon his demise in 1996. The initial goal was to build up enough principal in the fund to allow for periodic scholarships. These could be awarded to Appraisal Institute (AI) associates attending AI-sponsored courses and for students enrolled in one of the real estate programs offered at either the College of Evening and Continuing Education or the College of Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati (UC).
HISTORY
Mr. Jackson spent his entire adult life in various aspects of the real estate business. After WWII, he joined the Keyes Company in Miami, Florida and in 1950, he joined the R.K. Cooper Company in Coral Gables, Florida. He later became their general manager and general contractor, coordinating major projects throughout Greater Miami. In 1959, Mr. Jackson relocated to Cincinnati to become the interim general manager of the Myers Y. Cooper Company. A few years later, he entered the real estate appraisal profession on a full-time basis working with the Mills Judy Company. He began his own company in 1970. Mr. Jackson cherished the real estate business and the constant education it afforded him. In addition to a BBA from the University of Miami, he earned the MAI, SREA, and CRE designations during his career. He became very active with both the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and was awarded life membership to the Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors in 1991 and was inducted into Omega Tau Rho-the National Association of Realtors Honorary Fraternity.
Mr. Jackson left a legacy of educated real estate professionals by teaching courses at the various universities and trade associations and mentoring many throughout his active years. He strongly believed that the learning process should continue all your life.
The Robert A. Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund is maintained by the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and the administrator is Raymond A. Jackson or his successors. The Fund was initially started by donations received upon the demise of Bob Jackson, including family contributions, periodic third party donations, and net proceeds realized from an annual golfing event given in his honor. Amounts of the scholarship awards are to be determined by the administrator.
The Scholarship Award Committee shall consist of three people. The makeup will vary depending on whether the scholarship is being awarded to an AI associate or a UC real estate student. The administrator will organize the committee.
For awards given in AI years, the committee will include the Cardinal Ohio Chapter President, or their nominee, the Chapter Education Chair, and designated member appointed by the President.
The AI committee shall give notice to associates at the Annual Real Estate Economic Seminar held in December of each year and by written or e-mail newsletters stating Chapter activities. The application and completed dissertation must be delivered to the AI scholarship committee by March 31 of the respective year and the committee will announce the award at Jackson Memorial Golf Outing or other Cardinal Ohio Chapter function held in the spring or summer months. The winner will need to apply the scholarship toward an AI-sponsored course taken within eighteen (18) months of the award announcement.
For awards given in UC years, the committee will include the head of the Real Estate Program, or his/her nominee, a person appointed by the head of the Real Estate Program, and the fund administrator.
The UC Committee shall give notice at the beginning of the academic school year for UC award years. The committee will establish submission criteria. Basic scholarship criteria are attached.
The committee may alter the basic criteria, as they deem appropriate with permission from the fund administrator.
