2002 President's Message
The first thing I want to do as your 2002 president is thank Eric Belfrage, MAI, SRA for his excellent leadership in 2001. I also want to thank the 2001 officers, directors, and committee chairs - many of whom will serve again in 2002 - for their time and effort. Sally Lawton, our executive director, is involved in each and every chapter function. Nothing would be accomplished without her and she deserves a special thanks.
During the past five or six years I have been involved with the Cardinal Ohio Chapter on various committees. I eventually went on to serve as a director, treasurer, and vice president. Prior to that, in 1988-1989 I had the pleasure of being the President of the Dayton Chapter No. 81 of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. Many of the individuals active in promoting our profession over a decade ago are still involved in doing the same today. The time and experience these individuals volunteer is appreciated, but it is time to involve some new faces in our organization.
I would ask that each of you consider getting more involved with one of our many committees. The chapter is also always looking for those willing to serve as a director or regional representative. It is a great way to stay informed of the many changes in the appraisal profession and a good opportunity to become acquainted with industry peers. I also hope that we can re-involve the general membership in the process of recruiting new members to the Cardinal Ohio Chapter. So please take the time this year and get involved in this great industry effort - the Appraisal Institute.
Your chapter officers, directors, and committee members are here to serve you, but we need to hear from you. We need your help in increasing our membership, promoting our industry, and promoting our designations.
As I succeed Eric Belfrage as your president, it is good to know that the Cardinal Ohio Chapter is in solid shape. The 2001 membership drive was successful in increasing our membership. Our chapter finances improved in 2001 after several years of operating in the red. Appraisers and the real estate industry had a strong year in 2001 and another solid year is expected in 2002. We have a dedicated group of officers, directors, committee persons, and members. How proud I am to serve as president along with the many distinguished appraisers who have served before me. I am counting on their help and support.
Let me know what can be done to help our members and our organization. I look forward to seeing you in the future at some new functions the chapter is planning. Have a great year!
C. Scott Bernard, SRA
2002 President, Cardinal Ohio Chapter
