QUARTERLY BOARD AND GENERAL MEETING MEMORANDUM

It is our hope to have a great turnout for the Thursday, May 13th Cardinal Ohio Chapter Quarterly Board and General Meeting and four-hour Loss Prevention Seminar, which will be presented by Liability Insurance Administrators (LIA). Please encourage your staff to attend: Four (4) Continuing Education credits - State of Ohio; Appraisal Institute - will be awarded for all attendees. This seminar is only $50 and will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m with a working lunch included. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. These events all take place at the OSU Fawcett Center for Tomorrow, 2400 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43210.
The luncheon will be a box lunch from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The working luncheon topic will be "The Real Estate Appraiser and the Subpoena Process". Anthony Mollica, MAI, Raymond Jackson, MAI and an attorney at law will be the moderators. The Quarterly Meeting will follow and should be adjourned by 3:30 p.m. All are invited to attend.
The Loss Prevention Seminar will feature J. Gordon Forester, Attorney at Law, Washington DC, who has lectured extensively on loss prevention for real estate appraisers, agents and brokers. Also speaking will be Robert Wiley, Senior Underwriter with LIA. Topics include:
- Why is there increased litigation against appraisers? How to avoid it.
- What happens if I am sued?
- How to deal with a lawsuit and the steps involved.
- What kinds of things do appraisers get sued for.
- What types of language should be included in your appraisal to avoid liability.
- Errors and Omissions Insurance and the different types of coverage.
I know everyone will come away from this seminar with a better understanding on how to avoid the pitfalls when appraising property and thus decreasing the chances of litigation.
Liability Insurance Administrators (LIA) provides a one-time premium credit for all attendees who purchase insurance through them. Also, all attendees will receive an informational booklet concerning the topics discussed at the seminar.LIA has been offering E&O insurance to the appraisal profession nationally since 1977. Their program is the largest, longest-running program in the United States. This year, 2004, LIA celebrated its 13th consecutive year of being endorsed by the ALIP Board of the Appraisal Institute.
